source: Release time:Aug 03,2021 AM 12:08

On August 20, Hainan’s first case of pediatric liver transplantation is discharged from the liver transplantation department of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University(SHHMU).

On July 29, DuDu, a child with congenital biliary atresia,  who is just over one year old, successfully underwent liver transplantation in our hospital,  and is waiting for a "rebirth" in recovery.

DuDu is unlucky. Congenital biliary atresia causes continuous decline in his liver function, he underwent kasai procedure in the other hospital when he was 2 months old, but the effect is not good, and it gradually developed into liver cirrhosis

It is reported that congenital biliary atresia is a kind of obstruction of the bile ducts inside and outside the liver, which can lead to cholestatic cirrhosis and eventually liver failure. As one of the representative diseases in newborn infants, there is 1 case in every 5000 to 8000 people and its natural mortality rate is as high as 100%. Without treatment, few children can survive beyond 2 years of age. The etiology is complicated and cannot be detected by B-ultrasound before birth. Currently, the medical profession believes that liver transplantation is the best treatment.

DuDu is also lucky. Because he not only has a mother who loves him and donated a part of her liver for him, but also gets the blessing of the rapid development and domestic leading of organ transplantation technology from pur hospital.
