Overview
Introduction to the Department of Medical Oncology The Department of Medical Oncology was established on May 4, 1984. It is the earliest oncology specialty in Hainan Province integrating clinical practice, scientific research and teaching. Currently, it is an authorized institution for master's and doctoral degrees in internal medicine (oncology direction) and radiation oncology of Hainan Medical University. The department now has 69 open beds and 25 daytime chemotherapy beds. It handles nearly 40,000 outpatient visits annually, discharges over 8,000 inpatients, and performs nearly 700 Class III surgeries such as tumor ablation. The department has 14 doctors and 32 nurses. Among the doctor team, there is 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 master supervisors, 4 doctors, 9 masters, including 8 with senior professional titles and 5 with intermediate professional titles, forming a sustainable development echelon featuring "connection between the elderly, middle-aged and young, and equal emphasis on medical treatment, teaching and research". Adhering to the service concept of "patient-centered", the department has built a precise management system covering the whole cycle of tumors, integrating MDT mode and humanistic care throughout the process. The department has 4 treatment groups: Thoracic Oncology, Breast and Gynecological Oncology, Esophageal and Gastrointestinal Oncology, and Hepatobiliary Oncology, and is preparing to establish 2 professional directions: Urogenital Oncology and Head and Neck Oncology. It routinely carries out multiple professional characteristic technologies such as minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of tumors (B-ultrasound/CT-guided minimally invasive puncture diagnosis, microwave/radiofrequency ablation therapy, etc.), individualized diagnosis, treatment and full-course management of tumors under the guidance of molecular biology, clinical research of anti-tumor drugs, establishment of venous infusion channels under complex vascular conditions (PICC, infusion port, etc.), and MDT multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Among them, the number of cases of minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of tumors ranks at the forefront in the province. In addition, the department took the lead in launching daytime chemotherapy services in 2019, with over 4,000 discharges annually, making it the largest daytime chemotherapy center in the province. In the past 5 years, it has successively undertaken 12 national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects, and published more than 70 academic papers, including over 30 included in SCI. It has participated in more than 80 domestic and foreign multi-center clinical studies as the Principal Investigator (PI), and initiated more than 10 IIT studies. The research results have been displayed in posters at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) for many times. The department also undertakes the teaching of oncology-related courses for undergraduates, international students, master's and doctoral students, as well as the standardized training of residents and the teaching of further education doctors. It regularly holds continuing education programs on oncology, seminars on new progress in clinical oncology and other forms to cultivate oncology professionals. After years of development, the department has become a Hainan Provincial Level I Clinical Key Discipline, Ma Jun Academician Workstation, Model Ward for Standardized Treatment of Cancer Pain, Model Ward for Standardized Management of CINV, Model Base for Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Refractory Pain, and Popular Science Education Base for Cancer Screening. The department will continue to promote the construction of software and hardware, and looks forward to providing high-quality medical services for the majority of cancer patients with first-class equipment and exquisite technology. Introduction to the Department of Radiation Oncology 1. Overview (Basic Information of the Department) The Department of Radiation Oncology (Radiotherapy Department) was established in 1984 and is the earliest department to carry out radiation therapy in Hainan Province. Currently, it has 72 open beds and 25 daytime chemotherapy beds, with over 5,000 discharged patients annually. The Radiotherapy Department is an oncology diagnosis and treatment specialty featuring "precision radiotherapy", integrating high-quality talent team, modern equipment, high and new technology, high-quality service and innovation. It has 49 staff members, including 13 doctors, 4 physicists, 12 technicians and 20 nurses. The department is the only location of Ma Jun Academician Workstation in China, equipped with the world's most precise radiation therapy equipment——high-field MR image-guided linear accelerator (MR-Linac Elekta Unity, the world's first MRI accelerator, the only one in Hainan Province), American General Electric PET-MR (the only one in Hainan Province), Flexitron 3D afterloader, General Electric large-bore CT (GE590), etc. It also has world-advanced planning systems (Monaco6.0), oncology information management systems (MOSAIQ) and artificial intelligence target contouring systems (MIM), etc. 2. Medical Work The department carries out conventional radiotherapy (including postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy, radical radiotherapy, etc., applicable to radiation-sensitive tumors such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and cervical cancer), precision radiotherapy technologies (IMRT, SBRT, IGRT), intraoperative radiotherapy, palliative radiotherapy, etc. The department has established a strict quality control system, and regularly conducts equipment calibration and dose verification to ensure the safety and effectiveness of radiotherapy. In particular, the precise radiation therapy for tumors using high-magnetic field MR-guided linear accelerator realizes adaptive therapy, making "visible tumors treatable". 3. Scientific Research Work In recent years, the Radiotherapy Department has undertaken more than 10 national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects, with research funds exceeding 8 million yuan. It has published more than 100 academic papers, including over 20 included in SCI. It has initiated or participated in more than 10 domestic and foreign multi-center clinical studies as the Principal Investigator (PI), and 3 clinical trials have been registered in Clinical Trials. 4. Teaching Work As the only accredited residency training base for radiation oncology in the province, the Radiotherapy Department is currently an important teaching unit for the standardized training of residents in the province and for professional master's students (radiation oncology major) of Hainan Medical University. It also undertakes the tasks of theoretical teaching and clinical internship for undergraduates. The department regularly holds radiotherapy technology training courses to cultivate grass-roots radiotherapy talents, establishes cooperation with Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, and selects doctors to further their studies to improve the overall level of the team. It strives to build an integrated training base in the province for radiation oncology with distinct characteristics, covering residency training, professional master's, professional doctor's, academic doctor's and postdoctoral training. With the support of Ma Jun Academician Workstation and Elekta Unity MRI-guided radiation therapy system, the Radiotherapy Department is committed to providing patients with integrated and one-stop high-quality services with the fastest treatment time, the most individualized and precise treatment technology in the province, aiming to help patients recover to the greatest extent, and realizing the vision of Hainan people to enjoy internationally advanced medical services without leaving the island for major diseases.Detail>>
