Cardiovascular surgery is a vital branch of surgery with high technical difficulty and risk, focusing on the diagnosis, surgery and comprehensive treatment of critical diseases of the cardiovascular system. Founded in 2009, the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery is a "National Key Clinical Specialty", "Hainan Branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases" and "Provincial Key Clinical Specialty". Following the "1+N" construction model, the department has inpatient wards, an intensive care unit, specialized operating rooms and an ultrasound diagnosis room.
The clinical work centers on six core areas. Relying on multidisciplinary collaboration (MDT), it provides full-cycle personalized medical services for patients, realizing the strategic goal of "major cardiovascular diseases being treated within the province". The core areas are as follows:
End-stage heart failure: It is the only unit in the province that routinely conducts heart transplantation.
Great vascular diseases: It covers open surgery and endovascular interventional therapy, and ranks first in the province in the number of aortic dissection cases treated.
Coronary heart disease: It routinely carries out various types of coronary artery bypass grafting surgeries.
Valvular heart disease: It provides valve replacement, repair and minimally invasive surgical treatments.
Congenital heart disease: It offers minimally invasive interventional therapy and open surgery, and is the first unit in the province to launch charitable assistance for congenital heart disease patients.
Extracorporeal life support: It applies advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies and equipment such as IABP, ECMO and CRRT.
The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery closely integrates clinical medicine with basic research, focusing on exploring the pathogenesis of major cardiovascular diseases, innovating diagnosis and treatment technologies, and conducting clinical transformation research. Centering on the core areas of cardiovascular diseases, it combines interdisciplinary methods such as molecular biology and artificial intelligence to promote the development of individualized precision treatment. The team will continue to deepen interdisciplinary integration: optimize the surgical risk assessment model through big data analysis, establish an early warning system for postoperative complications, and explore the potential applications of cardiovascular regenerative medicine and gene therapy to provide scientific support for overcoming complex cardiovascular diseases.
With the goal of cultivating high-quality and interdisciplinary talents, the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery has built a systematic and multi-level medical education system, covering undergraduate education, postgraduate training and standardized training for resident physicians. Relying on clinical practice and scientific research innovation platforms, the teaching team adopts diversified teaching models including theoretical lectures, simulation training, live surgery broadcasts, case discussions and MDT, focusing on the comprehensive cultivation of clinical thinking, surgical skills and scientific research capabilities.
