
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine currently has 42 beds. Its rehabilitation team consists of 10 physicians, including 2 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, and 5 attending physicians. Among the physicians, there is 1 with a doctoral degree, 4 with a master's degree, and 3 with a background in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The nursing team has 22 members, including 1 chief nurse, 13 nurse supervisors, and 8 staff nurses. The team has a high educational level, a reasonable structure, and excellent professional skills, with all members possessing rich clinical and teaching experience.
Department Director: Lu GuilanShe is a chief physician and professor, holding a master's degree from Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, and also serves as the director of the Rehabilitation Medicine Teaching and Research Office. Her social positions include standing committee member of the Geriatric Rehabilitation Branch of the China Association of Gerontology and Health Care, chairman of the Hainan Sports Medicine Association, and vice chairman of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Hainan Medical Association. She has obtained certification as an ACSM International Exercise Prescription Physician, a certificate in Neuropsychological Physician Training, and a TCM Specialty Qualification Certificate. Her main research directions are neurological rehabilitation and orthopedic rehabilitation. She has published more than 20 papers, presided over 3 provincial-level scientific research projects, 1 national-level continuing education program, and 5 provincial-level continuing education programs, as well as 2 grassroots promotion projects on stroke rehabilitation treatment technology for the Health Commission. She has also participated in compiling 3 books.
Head Nurse: Li YuntingShe is a chief nurse, serving as vice chairman of the Rehabilitation Medicine Branch of the Hainan Nursing Association and vice chairman of the Disaster Nursing Professional Committee of the Hainan Nursing Association. She received further training in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital from December 2004 to June 2005, obtained the provincial emergency specialist nurse qualification certificate in October 2010, and the national critical care specialist nurse qualification certificate in December 2014. From 2021 to 2022, she participated in compiling the "Clinical Practice Guidelines for Acute Chest Pain Nursing" led by the Chest Pain Nursing Group of the Chest Pain Branch of the China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare. Her main research directions are critical care nursing and rehabilitation nursing. She has published more than 10 papers, presided over 1 provincial-level scientific research project, and 3 provincial-level continuing education programs.
Under the guidance of rehabilitation medicine theory and based on evidence from rehabilitation evidence-based medicine, the department conducts a comprehensive assessment of patients' diseases and risk factors, and formulates personalized rehabilitation treatment plans to provide patients with comprehensive and holistic treatment.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has established cooperation with multiple disciplines in the hospital and built an early rehabilitation intervention model. This allows critically ill patients and post-operative patients to receive early rehabilitation, which is conducive to functional recovery and prevention of various complications.
The department is among the earliest in the province to launch an exercise prescription clinic. It plays an important role in popularizing and promoting high-quality scientific fitness for the public and effectively preventing and treating chronic diseases, benefiting the people of Coconut City (Haikou).
Actively carry out comprehensive rehabilitation treatment methods:
Neurological rehabilitation, osteoarticular rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, manual therapy, physical and occupational therapy, speech, swallowing and cognitive therapy, early rehabilitation, and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
Traditional rehabilitation treatment: The department actively provides TCM treatments such as TCM pack therapy, foot fumigation, hot compress packs, and acupuncture to facilitate patients. Some TCM projects, including TCM pack therapy, foot fumigation, and hot compress packs, are still available on holidays, achieving high patient satisfaction.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: The hospital is equipped with the best hyperbaric oxygen chamber equipment in the province, providing an effective treatment method for patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, etc.
Botulinum toxin injection therapy: Currently, it has achieved good results in treating conditions such as patient salivation and increased muscle tone.
Joint cavity injection therapy.
Personalized nursing: The department carries out narrative nursing, conducts a comprehensive assessment based on patients' conditions, age, gender, psychological status, and other factors, and formulates personalized rehabilitation nursing plans to meet patients' needs to the greatest extent.
Early intervention and prevention:
For stroke patients, it conducts anti-spastic posture placement, swallowing function assessment and screening, detects problems early, and provides swallowing function training, intermittent orogastric tube feeding, and oral feeding training to help patients remove gastric tubes and intervene in time to prevent complications.
For patients with spinal cord injury, it collaborates with the Department of Orthopedics to conduct simple bladder volume measurement, and provides clean intermittent catheterization, intestinal nursing techniques, and pelvic floor muscle training to help patients remove urinary catheters and regain confidence and dignity.
For critically ill patients with endotracheal intubation/tracheotomy, it provides breathing training, swallowing training, coughing training, pulmonary function training, postural drainage, and prone position ventilation to help patients remove endotracheal intubation/tracheotomy tubes.
For comatose patients, it conducts ice stimulation, light stimulation, olfactory stimulation, and sensory function training to promote early awakening and social reintegration.
Comprehensive treatment methods: Rehabilitation nursing adopts a variety of treatment methods, such as physical therapy, psychological counseling, and TCM nursing, to comprehensively solve patients' physical, psychological, and social problems.

The Department of Rehabilitation Therapy of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University is the first rehabilitation therapy department in a general hospital in China. Through a model of professional refinement and focused research, it provides comprehensive and precise rehabilitation services for patients. It is a young and dynamic department integrating clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research.
The department is built in strict accordance with the three-level standards of the National Health Commission, providing in-depth services to all clinical departments of the hospital and truly realizing the whole-life-cycle rehabilitation treatment. From newborns to elderly patients, and from the acute phase to the recovery phase of diseases, each professional group relies on professional technologies and advanced equipment to provide comprehensive and personalized rehabilitation treatment services. Whether it is osteoarticular rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, occupational therapy, or speech and swallowing therapy, it can tailor rehabilitation plans for patients. Through inter-departmental collaboration, it provides patients with integrated rehabilitation services from disease treatment to functional recovery, effectively preventing complications, reducing disability, and helping patients return to their families and society, winning wide recognition and trust.
As a leading rehabilitation medicine center in Hainan Province, the Department of Rehabilitation Therapy of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University has achieved remarkable results in clinical scientific research in the past five years. Focusing on five characteristic directions—Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), pelvic floor dysfunction, post-orthopedic surgery rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, and swallowing disorders—it has undertaken 26 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects (including the National Natural Science Foundation of China), published 79 high-quality academic papers (25 of which are included in SCI), and obtained 5 national authorized patents. These achievements demonstrate the department's comprehensive strength in scientific research innovation and clinical transformation.
The department is deeply integrated into the medical education system, undertaking undergraduate teaching and clinical internship guidance for students of Hainan Medical University. Relying on rich clinical experience and professional knowledge, it creates a learning platform that closely combines theory and practice for students. At the same time, the department accepts 30 further education students from all over the country every year, and helps them improve their professional skills through systematic training programs and one-on-one guidance.
