The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is a specialist department integrating clinical practice, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and cardiovascular interventional technology as its features. Currently, it is the Hainan Provincial Systematic Cardiovascular Disease Clinical Medicine Center (co-established with Hainan Provincial People's Hospital in 2021), was approved as a National Key Clinical Specialty in 2024, became the Hainan Provincial Cardiovascular Interventional Technology Training Base in 2023, and was designated by the National Health Commission as the provincial-level leading unit for cardiovascular prevention and treatment technology in 2024. It undertakes the treatment of common, frequently-occurring, acute and critical cardiovascular diseases across Hainan Province all year round, and has now developed into a key discipline in Hainan with strong clinical technical strength, a sound talent echelon, and robust scientific research capabilities. The department currently has 5 inpatient areas (Cardiovascular Medicine Inpatient Area 1, 2, 3, 4, and CCU), with a total of 155 beds and 116 medical staff, including 49 physicians, 67 nurses, 26 senior professional titles, 45 intermediate professional titles, 3 doctors, and 28 masters. It has four diagnosis and treatment centers (Chest Pain Center, Atrial Fibrillation Center, Heart Failure Center, and Rehabilitation Center).
The department undertakes the treatment of common, acute and critical cardiovascular diseases across the province throughout the year. Currently, it focuses on cardiovascular interventional technology and the treatment of acute and critical cardiovascular diseases as its main features. It routinely carries out coronary angiography and interventional stent implantation (including intravascular imaging-guided intervention, and interventional treatment of complex coronary arteries and chronic total occlusions). It also specializes in atrial fibrillation left atrial appendage occlusion, temporary pacing placement, permanent cardiac pacemaker implantation, cardiac resynchronization therapy, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation, and renal artery stent implantation, with an annual operation volume of over 4,000 cases. In the treatment of acute and critical diseases such as acute myocardial infarction, severe myocarditis, and sudden cardiac death, the department collaborates with the hospital's emergency ECMO treatment team to provide treatment coverage across the province, and its technology and strength rank among the top in the province.
In recent years, the department has presided over and undertaken 5 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, including 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 3 Regional Fund projects of the Hainan Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and 1 Key R&D Project of the Hainan Provincial Department of Science and Technology. It has published 1 English monograph, 13 SCI papers, and 15 Chinese core journal papers. The department has held 5 national and provincial continuing education programs and technology promotion projects, with over 1,000 trainees, and 4 national and provincial academic conferences, which have promoted the overall improvement of cardiovascular clinical technology in Hainan Province.
The department undertakes undergraduate teaching, postgraduate training, international student teaching, and national standardized physician training for Hainan Medical University all year round. In accordance with the requirements of the university and the state, as well as the training plans for different students, it carefully arranges the teaching content for postgraduates, undergraduates, standardized training residents, international students, and advanced training students. Different assessment methods are adopted for students at different levels, combining theoretical assessment and basic operation assessment, to complete the teaching tasks on time while ensuring the improvement of teaching quality and effectiveness. At present, it has 1 doctoral student and 14 master's students in training.
