The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University was established in October 2016. It is the earliest independent specialty in Hainan Province to carry out clinical diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, and teaching of rheumatic and immunological diseases.
It serves as the chair unit of the Rheumatology Branch of the Hainan Medical Association, one of the first national "Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment Demonstration Units for Spondyloarthritis", and a national "Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Service Center for Gout". The department has 28 open beds and offers specialized rheumatology clinics and expert clinics.
Its physician team includes 3 staff with senior professional titles and 5 with intermediate professional titles. In recent years, the department has successively sent core physicians to specialized departments of well-known domestic hospitals for further study. Since its establishment, adhering to the hospital's philosophy of "Pursuing Virtue and Knowledge, Working Together to Help the Public", the department strives to develop into an advanced rheumatic and immunological discipline in Hainan Province and a well-known one in China.
The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology routinely conducts standardized diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and immunological diseases. In recent years, it has launched cutting-edge technologies such as biological targeted therapy for rheumatic diseases, multi-targeted therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus, and blood purification therapy.
The medical and nursing team of the department is led by experts with senior titles, and is equipped with specialized physicians, nursing teams, and chronic disease management specialists. It carries out diagnosis and treatment of difficult rheumatic diseases through a multi-disciplinary collaboration model.
The department emphasizes the concept of "early diagnosis and early treatment", establishes a chronic disease management system, conducts patient health education, and realizes the full-cycle management of "prevention-diagnosis and treatment-rehabilitation".
The team of the department has actively participated in quality management tool application competitions, and has won the second prize in the Hainan Provincial Quality Management Tool Application Competition, 1 first prize and 2 second prizes in the Hospital Multi-dimensional Management Tool Application Competition.
In recent years, the department has published a total of 26 papers as the first author or corresponding author, including 7 SCI papers. It has undertaken 9 scientific research projects, including 1 Hainan Provincial Key R&D Program project, 6 provincial and municipal-level projects, and 2 hospital-level projects. It has developed 7 new technologies and obtained 2 utility model patents.
The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology undertakes the teaching of theoretical courses for multiple classes of Hainan Medical University, as well as the clinical teaching of interns, probationers, and resident physicians in standardized training.
Students conduct follow-up learning in accordance with the requirements of the teaching syllabus, and participate in the department's teaching lectures and case discussions. A number of doctors have won awards respectively: the second prize in the Hainan Provincial Resident Physician Teaching Ability Competition; the Excellence Award in the English Teaching Competition of Hainan Medical University and the title of "Excellent Internship Tutor"; the second and third prizes in the Young Teachers' Speech Competition of the Second Clinical College.
In the future, the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology will improve the diagnosis and treatment level of rheumatic diseases in accordance with the hospital's construction goals and discipline development plan. It will strengthen cooperation with advanced domestic hospitals to promote discipline development, enhance talent training, actively carry out new technologies and scientific research work, promote clinical practice through scientific research and drive scientific research with clinical practice, so as to improve the overall scientific research level.
