The Blood Transfusion Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University was established independently from the Clinical Laboratory in 2010 and has now become a comprehensive department integrating inspection, treatment, teaching and scientific research. As the leading unit of the Blood Transfusion Medicine Professional Committee of the Hainan Medical Association and the leading unit of the Hainan Provincial Clinical Blood Use Quality Control Center, its blood transfusion compatibility testing projects have passed the ISO 15189 laboratory quality accreditation.
The department has a scientific and perfect functional layout, with several professional areas such as the blood matching room, blood issuing room, blood storage room, reagent storage room and treatment room. At present, it has routinely carried out ABO/Rh (D) blood group typing, difficult blood group typing, Rh blood group subtyping, irregular antibody screening, cross-matching (saline method/polybrene method/micro-column gel method/anti-human globulin method), platelet antibody detection, neonatal hemolytic disease detection, direct/indirect Coombs test, antibody titer detection (IgG/IgM anti-A/anti-B), thromboelastogram (TEG) detection, diluted/stored autologous blood transfusion and other projects. At the same time, it plans to carry out new projects such as blood component apheresis treatment, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) technology, lymphoplasmapheresis, etc.
This discipline has a perfect quality management system and has multi-level talents in clinical, nursing, inspection and blood transfusion, etc., to ensure the rational, safe and effective use of blood in clinical practice. Collaborating with the multi-disciplinary MDT team, it has achieved remarkable results in the application of autologous blood transfusion technology and the rational and standardized use of blood in clinical practice, and has been widely recognized in the hospital and praised by peers inside and outside the province. The department adheres to the core concept of "Mingde (cultivating virtue), Zhizhi (acquiring knowledge), Qixin (uniting hearts), Jizhong (helping the public)" and practices the hospital spirit of "Ren Shan (benevolence and kindness), Boxue (erudition), Wushi (pragmatism), Tuoxin (innovation)", and continues to provide high-quality services for patients and clinical departments.
There are currently 13 professional and technical personnel in the department, including 2 chief technicians, 1 doctor, 3 masters (including 1 in study), 2 practicing physicians and 1 nurse. It undertakes the teaching task of "Diagnostics" in the medical school and the training and teaching work of undergraduate/ junior college students, standardized training students and advanced training students majoring in medical laboratory. It has cumulatively published more than 40 academic papers (including 9 SCI papers), participated in compiling 3 monographs, obtained 4 utility model patents, and undertaken 5 provincial, municipal and hospital-level scientific research projects.
In the future, the department will focus on the development of personalized blood transfusion program formulation, refined management of blood resources and optimization of the blood transfusion safety quality control system; focus on promoting the application of new technologies such as whole blood/half-blood transfusion, blood cell apheresis and removal, lymphoplasmapheresis, platelet-rich plasma treatment, etc.; strengthen the construction of talent echelon and the cultivation of scientific research and innovation capabilities, so as to provide patients with safer, more accurate and more efficient blood transfusion medical services; at the same time, continuously enrich and improve the advanced training operation and theoretical courses in the blood transfusion specialty, and cultivate talents for the blood transfusion field.
