Breast and Thyroid Surgery Department
Overview
Ⅰ. Department Overview The Department of Breast and Thyroid Surgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University was established in June 2020. Relying on the high-quality development of the hospital, it has become a medical, teaching and research integrated department with large diagnosis and treatment scale and distinct specialty characteristics in the province, and has built a whole-process management system for breast and thyroid diseases. The department currently has 64 open beds and a medical team of 31 people, including 11 physicians (4 chief physicians and 2 associate chief physicians) and 19 nursing staff (1 chief nurse, 9 oncology specialist nurses and 3 international lymphedema therapists). As the leading unit in Hainan Province for the Scientific Management Program of Breast Cancer of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the department also holds qualifications such as the National Microsurgery Skills Training Center, the designated unit for promoting breast cancer post-operative reconstruction and lymphedema treatment technology, and the Hainan Provincial Training Base for Minimally Invasive Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Diseases. It is a cultivated discipline of the Hainan Provincial Clinical Medicine Center. Adhering to the concept of "taking medical quality as the core and patients' health as the center", the team has introduced top experts such as Professor Mu Lan from Peking University People's Hospital. Young physicians are growing vigorously, forming an advanced level of diagnosis and treatment, scientific research and teaching in the province. Ⅱ. Department's Professional Work With tumor radical treatment and functional repair and reconstruction as the core, the department carries out full-surgical diagnosis and treatment covering breast, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, and many technologies take the lead in the province. Its features include: Breast diseases: Breast-conserving plastic surgery for breast cancer, autologous/implant reconstruction (latissimus dorsi, TRAM, DIEP and other flap technologies), laparoscopic surgery, nipple-areola reconstruction; Thyroid diseases: Transoral/axillary/thyromammary approach laparoscopic surgery, ablation for benign tumors, surgery for hyperparathyroidism; Rehabilitation diagnosis and treatment: A lymphedema rehabilitation nursing clinic was set up in 2022, providing characteristic services such as comprehensive decongestive therapy and kinesiology taping. Ⅲ. Scientific Research Work In the past three years, the department has achieved remarkable results in scientific research and innovation: Project approval: 2 national-level projects (including 2 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China) and 7 provincial-level projects (including 1 from the Provincial Natural Science Foundation and 2 key projects); Paper publication: 21 SCI papers have been published, with an average impact factor of 3.866 and a maximum of 13.751; Technological breakthroughs: Under the guidance of Professor Mu Lan, 13 new technologies have been developed, among which 5 are internationally leading, 3 are domestically leading and 5 are provincially leading. Some of them have been transformed into routine surgical methods; Academic influence: It has hosted 15 national/provincial continuing education projects, compiled/translated 4 professional monographs and teaching materials as chief editors/translators, and its scientific research achievements have obtained novelty search certification from the Peking University Library. Ⅳ. Teaching Work In the teaching work of the university-affiliated hospital, 9 staff in the department hold teacher qualification certificates. The department undertakes multiple teaching projects covering undergraduate, master's and doctoral courses in clinical medicine and nursing, including theoretical courses, internship courses and practical skills courses of surgery.Detail>>
